On my first trip to Cuba, I went on a photographic expedition, crossing the island from Remedios to Havana. The island and the people were vibrant and colorful, but the bright sunlight also created stark contrasts in black and white.

The Cuban National School of Ballet is one of the most prestigious and rigorous ballet schools in the world. I was honored to be able to photograph the students as they practiced.

The Cuban National School of Ballet is the largest ballet school in the world, with over 1,000 students. Unlike in some other countries, boys in Cuba are encouraged to study dance, and are considered stars within their family.
