A Pilgrimage of Sorts 2022
These photographs were taken while at an artist residency in Assisi, in October/November 2022. Assisi is a world heritage UNESCO site and is recognized as the sacred birth place of St Francis and St Clare as well as being the home of world renowned frescoes by artists such as Giotto, Cimabue and Simone Martini. I journeyed to Assisi to experience both artistic and spiritual renewal.
Sweet Expectation 2013

In October 2013, I happened to be in Assisi when Pope Francis visited the birthplace of his namesake, St Francis of Assisi. Amidst thousands gathered to see the Pope sweep by, I photographed the sweet expectation of an elderly woman as she waited patiently to finally glimpse and then wave to him as he rode by in his motorcade.
